What kind of speed can I expect?
TiscaliSat downloads at speeds up to ten times faster than dial-up service. Download speeds will often reach 400 kbps with targeted peak time speeds in excess of 150 kbps. TiscaliSat's upload speed can reach a theoretical maximum of 153kbps and typically range between 50 and 80 kbps on average. Peak time is weekday evenings.
How does TiscaliSat compare with other satellite-delivered Internet systems?
TiscaliSat is a true always-on Internet service that both receives and transmits Internet content over satellite at high speeds. Unlike its satellite Internet competitors, TiscaliSat does not require customers to tie up their phone line or retain a separate Internet service provider. The TiscaliSat product responds to what today's Internet enthusiasts say they want, a high-speed, always-on connection to the Internet that doesn't require a telephone connection. Instead of having to deal with multiple service providers, multiple bills, busy telephone lines and slow transmission speeds, TiscaliSat offers a one-stop Internet service package.
How does TiscaliSat service compare to Digital Subscriber Line (DSL) and cable modems?
TiscaliSat, like DSL and cable modems, provides an always-on, high-speed connection to the Internet. However, unlike DSL and cable modem services, which are limited in availability, TiscaliSat service will be available virtually everywhere in Europe where Tiscali operates - even in remote areas - over satellite.
How does TiscaliSat compare with standard dial-up Internet access?
TiscaliSat provides always-on Internet service that can download up to ten times faster than dial-up service. TiscaliSat does not require users to dial-in for access. You don't need a phone line to use TiscaliSat.
How much does TiscaliSat cost?
We have yet to announce the pricing of TiscaliSat in each country. Also the pricing may depend upon the features of the products released in each country and on contract duration. However, here is an approximate indication of the prices of the 2 types of TiscaliSat:
Equipment
There will be a cost for the satellite modem, dish and low noise block, and standard cabling. The approximate prices of the Equipment are about 1,000 € for Single user version and about 1,500 € for Multi user version. In some countries, the Equipment may be offered as a monthly rental.
Installation
There will be a cost for the standard installation of the equipment. This will typically cost more than a simple TV reception dish as our equipment is designed for two-way operation. If you require a specialised installation then there may be additional costs beyond the standard installation price. The approximate price of the standard installation is about 350 €
Monthly fee
There will be a flat-rate monthly cost for accessing the Internet via an always on broadband connection. The approximate prices of the monthly fees are about 80 € for Single user version and about 200 € for Multi user version.
